Beginner Judo for Children – Tuesday 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm (When offered)
Judo is a Japanese word meaning the gentle way and uses the principles of maximum efficiency with minimum effort and mutual welfare and benefit. Judo is an Olympic sport, a method of self defense, a physical education and a way of life. Kodokan Judo is a discipline made up of breakfall techniques, sixty seven throwing techniques, newaza (matwork), randori (free practice) and shiai (contest). Other parts of Judo that involve armbars, advanced chokes, and kata (forms) that are not taught in this basic course. Beginner Judo for Children is a course for children who have never completed a Beginner Judo course or need to learn a basic foundation in Judo. This course will be limited to learning basic Kodokan Judo history and philosophy, customs and courtesies, warms-ups, posture, movement, balance, proper breakfall techniques, and a few selected throws and pins best suited for children. Upon completion of is course the child will have the option of joining Junior Judo held on weekdays and/or Junior Judo held on Sundays. Both of these continuing classes are ongoing Judo programs for youngsters with basic Judo skills. Classes are taught with fun and safety in mind. Judo uniforms can be purchased from the Head Instructor at a nominal cost. (Ages 5 – 14)
Junior Judo – Tuesday/Thursday 7:10 pm – 8:10 pm
Junior Judo is an ongoing Judo program for young students who have completed a Judo course or who have previous experience in Kodokan Judo. Classes will cover warm-ups, breakfalls, selected throws and matwork, randori (free practice). Those age 12 and above will also be taught choking techniques. Students are required to join the USJF Shufu Yudanshakai-USJI Virginia Judo Inc. to be examined for promotions to higher rank, compete in sanctioned tournaments, or attend seminars and clinics. The Arlington Judo Club is affiliated with both the USJF Shufu Yudanshakai and USJI Virginia Judo Inc. Students are required to wear a Judo uniform. Judo uniforms can be purchased from the Head Instructor at a nominal cost (Ages 5 – 14).
Beginner Judo for Teens/Adults– Thursday 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm (When offered)

Judo is an Olympic sport, a method of self defense, a physical education and a way of life. Kodokan Judo involves break falls, 67 throws, mat work, randori, kata and shiai. Judo uniforms can be purchased from the instructor for a nominal cost. Upon completion of this course, students will have the option of joining Senior Judo. (Ages 13- Adult)
Senior Judo – Tuesday/Thursday 8:20 pm – 9:20 pm
Senior Judo is an ongoing Judo program for those students who have completed a Judo course or who have previous experience in Kodokan Judo. Practices will cover warm-ups, breakfalls, selected throws, all the techniques of matwork, randori (free practice) and at selected times the class will practice kata (forms). Students are required to join the USJF Shufu Yudanshakai or USJI Virginia Judo Inc. to be examined for promotions to higher rank, compete in sanctioned tournaments, or attend seminars and clinics.
